Our process

How It Works

From the first call to the final clean. Here is exactly what happens and how long it takes.

No obligation at any point before you sign a quote.

Takes two minutes
2
A phone call, usually fifteen minutes
3
About an hour on site
4
Usually within a few days of the visit
5
Depends on materials and the current schedule
6
Two to four weeks for a bathroom
7
Final day

No surprises

Most people are not worried about whether their renovation will look good. They are worried about being stuck in a job that drags on with no end date, a price that keeps moving, and nobody answering the phone.

That is what this page is about. Here is every stage, what you pay and when, and what we do if something unexpected turns up.

If anything here is unclear, ask us. We would rather answer it before you commit than after.

The seven steps

1

You get in touch

Takes two minutes

Call us or request a call back. We ask for your name and your mobile. That is all.

If you want to send photos of the space, even better. It gives us a much clearer idea before we speak.

2

We talk it through

A phone call, usually fifteen minutes

We ask what you are thinking, what you want to spend and when you want it done. You ask us whatever you like.

By the end of this call you will have a rough idea of cost and whether we are a fit. If we are not the right people for your job we will tell you on this call rather than waste your time.

3

We visit and measure

About an hour on site. Free.

This is where a real number comes from. We look at the space, check what is behind the walls where we can, look at access and take measurements.

There is no charge and no obligation. You are not committed to anything by having us visit.

4

You get a fixed price in writing

Usually within a few days of the visit

An itemised quote. What is included, what is not, and the total. Not one number on one line.

Take your time with it. Compare it with others. Ask us about anything on it. A quote you do not understand is not much use to you.

5

We book you in

Depends on materials and the current schedule

Once you accept the quote we lock in dates and order materials. Some things have lead times. Cabinetry and stone in particular.

We tell you the start date and the expected finish date before any money changes hands beyond the deposit.

6

We build it

Two to four weeks for a bathroom. Three to five weeks for a kitchen.

Same team throughout. You know who is coming and when.

You get an update as each stage finishes. If anything changes you hear it from us the day it happens, not at the end.

7

We hand it back

Final day

We clean up properly and walk through it with you. Anything not right gets fixed.

You get your certificates and paperwork including waterproofing where it applies.

How long does a renovation take?

Time on site for the jobs we do most. Quoting, ordering and lead times happen before we start.

Two to four weeks
One to two weeks
Three to five weeks
What most people forget

The build is only part of it. Quoting, ordering and lead times happen before we start on site. For kitchens especially, cabinetry and stone can take longer to arrive than the installation takes to complete.

What makes a job run late

Changes to the scope once we have started, materials that arrive damaged or late, and things nobody could see until a wall came off. We plan for the third one and we tell you straight away when it happens.

What you pay and when

You pay in stages as work is completed. Not all up front.

Deposit
10% on accepting the quote

Secures your dates and lets us order materials.

Progress payments
At agreed stages

As the work is completed.

Final payment
On completion

After you have walked through it and you are happy.

You never pay for work that has not been done.

What happens if something unexpected turns up

Older Melbourne homes hide things. Rot behind a shower wall. Old pipework that has to be replaced. Floors that are not level. It is not unusual and it is not anyone’s fault.

Here is what we do when it happens.

1

We stop.

2

We show you what we have found.

3

We tell you what it costs to fix and what your options are.

4

You decide. Only then do we carry on.

Nothing is ever added to your bill without you approving it first. That is the whole rule.

What to ask any renovation builder

Useful whether you hire us or not.

Is the quote itemised?

One number on one line gives you nothing to compare or hold anyone to.

What happens if you find something unexpected?

Get the answer before you sign, not after.

Who is actually doing the work?

Ask whether it is their team or subcontractors, and whether the same people stay on the job.

What is the payment schedule?

Be careful of anyone asking for a large amount up front.

Will I get a waterproofing certificate?

For bathrooms this matters. It is the part you cannot see once it is finished.

What is the start date and the finish date?

In writing.

Ask us all of these. We would rather you did.

Ready for step one?

Two minutes and no obligation. Tell us what you are thinking and we will give you a straight answer on cost and timing.

Get a cost estimate

Your name and mobile. That’s it. Two fields.

We call you back within one business day.
